Top 5 Things You Should Look For In Salsa Lessons by Lee Coppin

Learning to dance Salsa is taking the world by storm. You will find salsa lessons springing up all over in school hall, clubs and bars. But how good are the lessons and how do you know if the instructor is up to scratch?

You need to remember that Salsa lessons and teachers are like a pair of shoes; one size dose not fit all. One salsa lesson my be great for your buddy may not good for you; the teacher may have a style of teaching Salsa that you love or it just may be a style you hate.

Now don't make the mistake of going along to the class and watching the Salsa teacher dancing with their partner and looking fantastic with stylish moves and dancing at the speed of light. They may be able to dance but can they teach; it is not always the case.

So what are the top 5 things you should look for in Salsa Lessons?

1) It is at the right level for YOU! - Sounds simple but I have seen so many beginners think they can join the advanced class and catch up. Wrong you need to join a class that is at your level. It is better to start lower and realise you are too advanced than the other way around - Trust me I have been there. 2) The classes are progressive - what do I mean by that? Well they build on each other. You learn a small pattern one week and build on that with additional turns and spins each week. All moves in Salsa can be done separately or in ever more complicated patterns. I progressive Salsa lessons you learn the moves and how to put them together. 3) Salsa lessons that run in groups. By joining a class that runs in a set number of week at a time they are likely to be structured and have a clear focused on where you will be at the end of the set of Salsa lessons. I have found that these types of Salsa lessons are much more effective at teaching the students especially beginners. 4) Salsa lessons with free dancing afterwards. There are a lot of Salsa lessons taking place in clubs, these have free dancing afterwards which is invaluable in helping you to fix what you have learn in the lesson in your head. 5) The Salsa lessons are FUN! Yes this is possibly the most important part of your dancing it must be fun to do. If you are not having fun in your Salsa lessons then what are you doing it for.

So there you have it the top 5 things you should be looking for in Salsa Lessons. I hope this has been some help and I look forward to seeing you on the dance floor.

Lee has been dancing salsa for over 2 years and enjoys travelling all over the world to learn more about salsa dancing.
