Helping The Lower Test Score Trend

Honors York University graduate and Bachelor of Education Candidate has responded to the need of parents requiring one-on-one at home tutoring for students that have low report card scores.
"Children tend to do poorly in school for a number of reasons. Some of the top reasons could be because they are new immigrants, have bad study habits, or because of illness."
Caroline Hung has received a grant from the Government of Ontario's Summer Company Program to start an initiative called Ready for Success, which offers one-on-one at home private tutoring based on Ontario Curriculum that has been teacher approved for the fraction of the cost of all tutoring centers and most private tutors.
"Children can be easily embarrassed and are reluctant to ask when they do not understand material and have to ask for help. By providing them one-on-one support they are less reluctant to ask for clarification when they need it.
Oxford Learning offers tutoring for about $40.00 an hour per private lessons and Kumon can cost up to $30.00 an hour for group lessons. Many parents can't afford that! It angers me that companies like this are making a huge profit off of struggling students. The grant from the Government of Ontario has allowed me to charge less than $25.00 an hour (only $499 for the entire summer - 20 hours total)".
Ready for Success, is a summer tutoring program that aims at helping students that struggled this past year in school to obtain a higher chance at receiving A's by re-teaching essential skills that the child has failed to grasp this past year so that they are ready to experience success in lessons that will be taught in September.
"I've realized that the summer is the best time for students to relearn material that they have not yet grasped. Over 90% of students are out of school during July and August. If they learn the essential lessons they failed to do well at during the past year they have a better chance of doing well at the lessons in the following year that build on the concepts they didn't understand."
By hiring only tutors entering into teachers college in September and those who have already obtained their Bachelor of Education degrees, Caroline has assured that all her tutors have already obtained at least one post secondary degree and have experience in the classroom.
"Students entering into teachers college are required to complete a bachelor degree at a recognized university and at least 300 hours of volunteer work in the school system before getting accepted into Bachelor of Education programs."
Caroline speaks on behalf of all educators with this closing comment:
"A teacher's ultimate goal is to see a child succeed. We all believe that students have the potential for success. It's just about giving them access to the right tools to do it."
